Typist enters text into the field you pick on a page, character by character, at a speed you set in words per minute. Press Start when you are ready. Pause or stop at any point.

What it is for

• Accessibility. Get prepared text into a page without sustained manual typing, at a pace that suits you.
• Demos and recordings. Show a form or an editor filling in at a steady, readable speed instead of appearing in a single frame.
• Deliberate pacing. Let long text land gradually when the page, or the person watching it, needs time to keep up.

How it works

1. Sign in and add your text. Open the Typist side panel, sign in with Google, then write or paste the text you want entered.
2. Pick the field and the pace. Click the field on the page where the text should go, then set the speed in words per minute.
3. Press Start. Typist enters the text at that pace. Pause or stop whenever you like.

Your text stays in the browser

The text you write or paste never leaves your browser. The Typist server is not sent your text, the address of the page you are on, or anything else about that page. To keep count of the daily allowance, the extension sends how many words a run will use and a random id for that run, and the server keeps a small dated record of each run. Our privacy page sets out exactly what that record holds.

There is one deliberate exception. When you save a snippet, that snippet's title and text are stored on the server so it reaches your other devices. Nothing is stored until you press save, and deleting a snippet removes it.
